Program Highlights:
Apopka High school offers two magnet programs through the office of school choice; Medical Careers and Advanced Engineering Applications.  Students in the medical careers magnet embark on a four year program that culminates with a clinical experience in the community during their senior year, advanced engineering students will participate in the Project Lead the Way curriculum starting in the 2012-2013 school year. Project Lead the Way is articulated with prestigious engineering colleges and our focus at Apopka High School will be Civil and Architectural engineering. Apopka High school is committed to academic rigor for all students and offers a range of courses in standard, honors and Advanced Placement levels, Apopka High School is pleased to offer our students 25 AP courses to choose from to prepare them for college. Apopka High School offers the AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, program for grades 9 through 12, Students enroll in an AVID elective class where they are taught the skills needed to be successful in their academic courses from the time of placement and well on into college.

School History/Highlights:
Apopka High School was established in 1931, In spring 1932, students were asked to choose a mascot for the athletic teams,  Dr. Carey C. Womble proposed the blue darter, which won,  Before that the school mascot was a 'Blue Devil', The school originated in what is now Apopka City Hall. In 1950, the school was moved to what is now Apopka Memorial Middle School, and then to its current location in 1976,  In 2009, most of the campus was torn down and a new campus was constructed.

 

Awards/Honors:
Rated among the top 10% of schools in the nation by the Washington Post / Grand Bohemian Award given to James Fowler as the 2011-12 Outstanding Art Educator of Orange County / Performance by the Blue Darter Marching Band in the 2011 McDonald’s Thanksgiving Parade / 2011-12 Men’s Chorus received an overall Superior rating / The Women’s Chorus, Bel Canto received an overall Excellent rating Gold School Award / Recognizing our school volunteer program, Fox 35 Cool School of the week for 2010-11 and 2011-12 / 4 Metro Conference championships during the 2011-12 season / 2 Coach of the Year awards in Boys’ Wrestling and Girls’ Softball / 31 athletes designated All Metro / 2011-12 Varsity Girls’ Soccer team advanced to the Final Four / 2011-12 Varsity Boys’ wrestling team went undefeated in the Metro conference / 2011, 12 Varsity Boys’ bowling team went undefeated in the Metro conference / 2011-12 Boys’ and Girls’ Track teams combined for 6 State Championships in various events.
