Charter School FAQs

  • Charter schools are independent public schools that hire their teachers, design their academic programs, and control their finances. They have an independent board of directors that is responsible for making decisions for the schools. The charter schools do not report to the Orange County School Board.

  • Charter schools must open their enrollment to all students in the district. Each charter school has an enrollment process that is approved by their board. To find out about a specific school’s process, you must contact the school directly.

  • Parents interested in enrolling their child in a charter school should visit the charter school and complete a registration packet.

  • Charter schools must provide ESE services as identified by the Individual Education Plan (IEP) committee.

  • Charter schools must hire teachers who are certified or eligible for certification by the Florida Department of Education.

  • Parents and employees of charter schools must call or visit the principal or director of the charter school if they have problems or concerns. If parents feel the administration is not meeting their concerns, they should address these issues with the board of directors of the charter school.
