The OCPS Psychological Services Department is committed to promoting the educational success and mental health development of Orange County Public School’s students through collaboration with families and school personnel. We are dedicated to advocating on behalf of all children and youth by implementing effective programs that improve outcomes for all students.
School psychologists help children and youth attain overall school success. They collaborate with educators, parents and other professionals to create safe, healthy and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school and the community for all students. School psychologists are highly trained in both psychology and education and complete a minimum of a specialist-level graduate degree program. School Psychologists provide counseling, instruction and mentoring for those students experiencing academic, behavioral and mental health concerns. They increase student achievement by assessing barriers to learning and determining the best instructional strategies to improve learning. School Psychologists promote student wellness and resilience by reinforcing communication and life skills, problem solving, anger management, self-regulation, self-determination and optimism. Families in need of social services, mental health services, or support for homelessness can complete a request for an OCPS staff member to reach out to them and provide assistance.
