Magnet Description

The Medical Careers Magnet prepares motivated students for a future in the dramatically expanding fields of medicine and healthcare-related careers. Students will engage in a rigorous college-preparatory academic program, including dual-enrollment and advanced placement courses, and have the opportunity to earn industry certifications. The program combines examining the structures and interactions of the human body systems and exploring the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. The program culminates in the opportunity to spend an entire semester participating in career shadowing and clinical experiences in healthcare fields that include dentistry, vision care, veterinary medicine, emergency medicine, radiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy, nursing, pediatrics, labor and delivery, cardiology, and surgery. Students throughout the Orange County School District may apply for this program. Participating students enter the program as freshmen and a limited number may enter as sophomores.

Please note that bus transportation is not provided for this program.

Specific Eligibility Requirements: Applicant’s schedule must be able to accommodate magnet classes; a 2.5 GPA is recommended.
