Great Beginnings is the welcome and introduction of OCPS’ way of work and vision of instruction for beginning teachers and the kick-off to the OCPS New Teacher Induction Program. Research shows that “new teachers who participate in a comprehensive induction program stay in the profession longer and have greater success in terms of job satisfaction and student achievement” (Harris, 2015). The focus for our beginning teacher professional learning aligns with the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices, which are Florida’s core standards for educators. They are what effective educators are expected to know and be able to do.
Great Beginnings will be offered face-to-face. You must have access to a laptop as the content will be presented using a blended learning model. Contact your school for device issuance and make sure to log in with your OCPS credentials before leaving campus. The TSR can help you.
Newly hired teachers must attend and be cleared through OCPS Pre-Orientation (PREO) before attending Great Beginnings. Check clearance status with the school secretary.
Great Beginnings will be offered face-to-face at the Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center (RBELC).
Great Beginnings 2024-25 will be offered quarterly throughout the school year. Participants will attend FOUR mini sessions from 5:30-8:30pm or TWO Saturday sessions from 8:30am-3:30pm.
