Healthy School Team

Healthy School Team

OCPS supports the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Coordinated School Health Model, which outlines eight key components for student well-being. We understand that schools can't tackle all health and social challenges alone. Instead, schools serve as vital hubs where various agencies and individuals collaborate to strengthen the well-being of our young people. By forming Healthy School Teams that integrate the CDC's model, we ensure the success of the OCPS Local School Wellness Policy. Join us in nourishing our community, one meal at a time!

"Health and success in school are interrelated. Schools cannot achieve their primary mission of education if students and staff are not healthy and fit physically, mentally, and socially." - National Association of State Boards of Education

Every OCPS school has a Healthy School Team dedicated to student well-being. These teams are built around the CDC's Coordinated School Health Model and include representatives from various areas like Health Education, Counseling, Physical Education, Staff Health Promotion, and Family and Community Involvement, with important student input.

These teams meet at least three times a year to:

  • Review food sales on campus based on OCPS' Eat Smart Nutrition Standards.
  • Develop and schedule necessary training for the school, often with input from Food and Nutrition Services, school nurses, and health educators.
  • Evaluate the school's progress in meeting its wellness goals.
